Church Of The 8th Day

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Church Of The 8th Day are our local LA metal show promoters. Dan, Jordan and the other guys over there are top notch guys. Turns out they are having some issues relocating with the close of the Los Angeles Knitting Factory looming.  Dan and these guys are really awesome folks. They have been responsible for countless awesome shows here over the years. I know almost every great show I have been to over the last 3 years or so have been put on by them.  Below is the body of their plea from over at Myspace.

The Church of the 8th Day is currently going through a pretty rough patch right now. As most of you know, the Knitting Factory will be closing it’s doors at the end of October, and this is where we usually throw our shows. Getting into new venues for us, means we have to pay upfront for any venue rental and bar/food guarantees. With the amount of shows we are planning, we have maxed out our credit cards and wiped out our personal bank accounts on deposits, to keep bringing great shows through Los Angeles. The month of October is filled with all types of shows, and we ask that you please come out and support, and bring some friends, as we could use the extra support this month, to get us through the next few months.

These will be some of the last shows at the Knitting Factory Hollywood forever. We have also taken on two rooms on October 25th,LAST night at the Knit which will be the , ever. We will be announcing bands for this night very soon, and expect everyone to come out to see it off.”

Personally, I love the Hollywood Knitting factory. I am going to miss going there and hanging out with my friends and seeing bands. I hope the Knitting Factory folks manage to find a new building here and re-open. Who knows?

All those years ago as a kid, one of the things that hooked me on DIY punk and metal was the sense of community. The fact bands, fans, promoters, artists, labels, etc all pulled together to help each other out. None of us do this shit for huge piles of cash. As we all know… there are no huge piles of cashto be had in our world.  So, what does that leave? that leaves us.  Our big gnarly crusty ass-metalhead-thrashing-mad family. Remember all those nights of hanging in front of the Knit with all your friends? the Murderfest shows? The free Scion shows How rad was the Municipal Waste free show?!) Well,  Church Of The 8th Day helped bring us those memories and those good times. I’d like to see them survive so they can bring us some more.

Just so happens my band is on one of those shows. We play October 16th with The Accused. Gonna be a rager!!! Anyway… keep an eye out for the last month of metal shows at the Knit. If you find yourself on the fence about attending one of the shows… say “fuck it” and go!
